University Interscholastic League (UIL) exists to provide educational extracurricular academic, athletic, and music contests. It was created by The University of Texas at Austin in 1910 and has grown into the largest inter-school organization of its kind in the world.
The UIL A+ Program is an academic competition for elementary, middle, and junior high students.
The following choices are available for students interested in participation at Rock Prairie Elementary:
Second Grade
Story Telling – Students are read a story and asked to retell it with details and expression.
Creative Writing – Students are given picture prompts and asked to write a creative story.
Third Grade
English Spelling – Students are given a written test over words they have studied.
Story Telling – Students are read a story and asked to retell it with details and expression.
Ready Writing – Students showcase their writing abilities in an original paper.
Fourth Grade
English Spelling – Students are given a written test over words they have studied.
Oral Reading – Students have up to six minutes to read a selection of poetry with expression.
Ready Writing – Students showcase their writing abilities in an original paper.
Number Sense – Students compete in a 10 minute test over mental computations.
Chess – Students are given a paper chess puzzles test.
Interest forms for the 2018-2019 year will be sent home in September 2018.
Tryouts will be open to any interested 2nd through 4th grade student.
There is a limit of 3 team members per event, and students may compete in only one event.
Teams will be coached at Rock Prairie. The district UIL meet will be held during the regular school day on January 17, 2019.
Interested students will need to return the signed interest form by Friday, September 14 in order to try out.
